Former inspector-general of police Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar paid tribute to the country’s second prime minister, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, during this year’s Tun Abdul Razak award ceremony here last night.
Hanif, who is also the Tun Razak Foundation chairman, said Razak had integrity and was dedicated to developing the nation.
“The late Tun Abdul Razak was committed to the development of the country and improving the lot of the people.
“During his era, the government never faced negative elements, such as corruption and negligence. His leadership should continue to be acknowledged and recognised,” he said in his speech at the event.
Present were Datuk Mohamed Nizam, the third of Razak’s five children and the younger brother of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, and Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) president S.M. Mohamed Idris.
Later at the ceremony, Nizam handed over a plaque bearing Razak’s visage and a cash prize to Idris, who was named this year’s recipient of the Tun Abdul Razak national award.
The 88-year-old activist, known for championing consumerism issues, was the 18th person to be accorded the award organised by the foundation since its establishment in 1976.
For 40 years, Idris has led CAP in its struggle to educate the public on consumerism issues and inculcate good values in local communities.
